These hanging, ornamental angels were inspired by the stars scattered like jewels across a clear winter night sky and Balanchine’s ballet, the Jewels. Their design is heavily influenced by classical angelic art of the Medieval and Renaissance era, in particular to evoke the role of angels as warriors of light against darkness. Just as each 'jewel' in Balanchine's ballet evokes a distinct world, these angels too personify the sensations of the festive season:
Rubies: An energetic, jazzy and bright world, the warm glow of a fire, the red of berries and wine.
Emeralds: A dreamworld of a verdant delight, evergreen foliage and reminders of nature's endurance in the depths of winter.
Diamonds: A whirling winter world of snowfall and starlight, of precious gifts of gold and silver.
Dimensions: approximately 8" x 6". Made of lightweight paper clay, sculpted and decorated by hand using acrylic paint and real liquid gilt.
